Patrick K. Porter, Ph.D., (born August 10, 1961) is an American author, entrepreneur, and motivational speaker. His self-help books have sold more than three million copies worldwide. His works include ''Awaken the Genius'' (1993), ''Secrets of G.E.N.I.U.S.'' (1997), ''Discover the Language of the Mind'' (2004), and ''Thrive in Overdrive'' (2009). ''Awaken the Genius'' was awarded "Best How-To Book of 1994" by the North American Bookdealers Exchange. It has been translated into four languages.
In 1987 Porter founded Positive Changes – now the world's largest self-help franchise network, headquartered in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He hosted the Positive Changes radio show on WNIS radio in Norfolk, Virginia for ten consecutive years. He also had a television show called "Positive Changes" in Phoenix, Arizona. Porter and/or the Positive Changes franchise network have been featured in Entrepreneur, INC., The Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, as well as on ABC, NBC, CBS, and the Discovery Channel.
In 1992 Porter earned his doctorate degree in Psychology and Christian counseling from Louisiana Baptist University. Since then he has personally instructed more than 35,000 people in self-help, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, and Psycho-linguistics.
Porter has personally created over 400 audio-recorded motivational messages and creative visualization processes. He is the creator of ZenFrames – a portable achievement device that uses glasses and encoded visualization recordings to deliver pulses of light and sound that simulate relaxed brainwave frequencies. The device helps users with weight loss, stress management, smoking cessation, overcoming child abuse, and more.
